Dr. Dipak K. Guha is my grandfather and I am his first grandchild. When I see the photos taken of us together (old, Kodak style film pictures) I can feel the same love and pride emanating from them that I feel when he sends me silly videos via Facebook Messenger (daily!) or takes me along on grand adventures through Bali, Europe, and India (every few years).
Last summer, I had the privilege of taking my Nanu to see the most highly ranked neonatal intensive care unit in the US-- at a hospital where I am doing research and will soon be doing my clinical rotations. On top of being an excellent example of kindness, youthfulness, and fun in my life, he and my Naniji have both been the #1 sources of inspiration for me as I have developed my own interests and passion for medicine. I have asked Nanu, the Indian pioneer of Neonatology to share his journey and his stories here so that a new generation of aspiring neonatologists can benefit as I have, by having him to look up to. Each piece is written from his perspective. Thanks for reading! Picture: Golden Anniversary, 2017 Meadowlark Botanical Gardens foyer --Abhya |
