About MeIn my granddaughter's words, 'It was the love of thousands that got me here: friends, teachers, siblings, grandparents, and mentors.'
I was born in Nabagram, Mymensingh, and moved to Calcutta where my formal education started. My father, Dr. Jaimini Guha was a highly reputable physician. My mother, Shrimati Suborna Guha was a homemaker and a wise woman. My parents' mission was always to help others in need, first. And, they made sure to impress the same values upon me and my 5 siblings. After completing my MBBS from Jabalpur, M.P., I moved to Delhi. I fell in love with my gorgeous, graceful and brilliant wife, Dr. Arun Rashmi, also a pediatrician from A.I.I.M.S, and there has been no looking back! Rashmi's family moved from Rawalpindi, now in Pakistan and my family moved from East Bengal, now in Bangladesh. We first met in Jabalpur Medical College, where she was my junior, and then our paths crossed again in Delhi during the postgraduate studies. I believe we were destined to meet and made for each other. We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2017, and yet every day feels like a new exciting day with each other! |
I was fortunate to avail the best education and training from several institutions in India, including A.I.I.M.S, and from abroad, namely the University of California Medical Centre, the Children's Hospital, San Francisco, USA, and Liverpool London Rd. Maternity Centre, UK.
Above all, Kasturba Hospital, previously known as the Victoria Zanana Hospital, Delhi molded me into the pediatrician and neonatologist that I am today. At Kasturba Hospital, I was blessed with opportunities, encouragement and support from many well wishers which allowed me to realize my dream of developing a an advanced state-of-art neonatal care unit. The unit was recognised countrywide to be one of its kind, and is widely popular for training pediatricians from many institutions, including the medical colleges.
Recognising the healthcare needs, especially for newborns, I piloted many projects for uplifting the newborn care all over India and served as a resource specialist in neonatology for the Government of India and many other national and international organizations such as World Health Organization, and the UNICEF.
In my steadfast desire to make a change in newborn care in India, through academia, I also authored several books in neonatology, and published over 80 scientific papers in national and international medical journals.
If the Indian Ocean were an inkstand, the highest mountain of the Himalayas the pen, the earth the scroll, and time itself the writer, still it would not express the depth of my gratitude to all the men and women with whom I have had the opportunity to be associated.
I am sharing the journey of my life with all of you using this online platform. I hope that each one of you finds at least one inspiring story to remember!
